We will take the first morning bus from Mérida to Mucuchies which we will reach after a 2 hour drive. From here begins the adventure and the walk to the Gavidia Valley via the Misteque Lagoon. It is not uncommon to come across local fishermen making impressive catches of gigantic trout. The sparse vegetation allows you to enjoy breathtaking views of the entire valley. Night in a tent after 6 to 7 hours of walking at 3800 meters above sea level.

The highest point of the hike having been reached the day before, our descent of several days started well! Step by step the vegetation is becoming more and more present and the temperatures, although cool, are more reasonable. We reach the Mucarache Valley and take the direction of Los Morritos. The valley is totally wild and dotted with some ancient stone ruins. We will follow the torrent until we reach our camp for the night at 3200 meters above sea level after 6 hours of walking.

In the morning, we will continue the descent into the "Parque Nacional Sierra Nevada" where, from the "páramos" of Los Colorados, you will encounter exuberant humid forests, populated by tree ferns and bamboo. You will pass by vertiginous bridges suspended above ravines to the hamlet of El Carrizal de los Misquias, a small timeless island, you will head towards the small house where you will meet the owner Don Mario, who will tell you his many anecdotes and incredible. Not far away, you will have the opportunity to observe and photograph the emblematic “Gallito de las sierras” (Rupicola Peruviana).

Hike through primitive forests (1500m to 1400m). You will continue your way through a magnificent mountain forest and cross a wide and impressive suspension bridge over a torrent. You will arrive at the community of San Jose (1400m). It is possible to bathe in the torrents, although the water is still fresh! Camp in nature after 6 hours of walking.

For several days that we descended, here we are in the hot plains of the high Llanos at a few hundred meters of altitude. If you choose private transport, a 4*4 will be waiting for us in Santa Maria de Canagua to take us back to civilization after 4 to 5 hours of walking. If you opt for public transport, we will spend the night at the edge of a beautiful torrent where we can swim after 6 hours of walking. The next day (day 6 - public transport option) we will walk on a track in a warm climate along the large animal ranches. It will take no less than 5 to 6 hours to reach the asphalt road of Curbati where we can take the bus to Mérida. Count 6 to 8 hours by bus to Mérida with the change in Barinas bus station. Arrival in Mérida in the evening of day 6.
