Day 1: From Los Nevados approaching the Alto de la Cruz pass

From Mérida it will take us about 3 to 4 hours in a 4*4 by public transport to get to Los Nevados, the starting point of the hike at 2600 meters above sea level. This picturesque village is a must see in Venezuela, with its cobbled streets, small shops and breathtaking view of the valley. If you have time, we recommend an overnight stay in one of the small hostels. We enter the Sierra Nevada National Park after registering at the warden's office. The walk is done by a well marked path in the bottom of the valley but the slope does not weaken until reaching our camp point at 3800 meters of altitude after 5 to 6 hours of walking. The tent will be set up in a meadow.

Accommodation: Night in a tent.

Day 2: Alto de la Cruz paa and descent to the Pedro refuge.

The path, always well traced, does not spare us....it goes up again until reaching the 4200 meters of altitude of the Alto de la Cruz pass. If we had mules, that's where they'll go back to Los Nevados leaving us alone. A long descent now awaits us. We reach the longest and highest cable car in the world at Loma Redonda station and then follow the path to La Aguada station. We are now close to the Pedro refuge near which we will spend the night at 3200 meters altitude after 6 to 7 hours of walking.
