From Mérida it will take us about 3 to 4 hours in a 4*4 by public transport to get to Los Nevados (2600 meters above sea level), the starting point of the hike at 2600 meters above sea level. This picturesque village is a must see in Venezuela, with its cobbled streets, small shops and breathtaking view of the valley. If you have time, we recommend an overnight stay in one of the small hostels. We enter the Sierra Nevada National Park after registering at the warden's office. The walk is done by a well marked path, we take a canyon that we will descend and then climb to spend the night in a meadow at 2600 meters above sea level.

Today we will reach the highest point of the hike at 3400 meters above sea level which also represents the limit of the waters between the drop of water which goes towards the lake of Maracaibo and the water which leaves towards the delta of the Orinoco. As soon as we cross the pass, large humid forests appear. The landscape is magnificent with the Llanos below. We will reach our Boca De Monte camp in a small clearing at an altitude of 2900 meters after 6 to 7 hours of walking.

The path meanders between the trees and sometimes digs into the ground up to 3 meters deep! The vegetation is lush and the heat begins to be felt more and more. After 6 hours of walking we arrive at El Quino where we can finally find water because our reserves will be close to 0 since our departure from Los Nevados! If you have chosen private transport, a 4*4 will be waiting for us on site. Otherwise it will be necessary to plan an additional day of walking (day 4) via a very inclined track to reach Socopó and its bus station.
