Day 1: From Manzano to Campanario Peak Base Camp

From Mérida it will take us about 40 minutes by public transport to get to Manzano, the starting point of the hike at 2000 meters above sea level. From there an ancient real Spanish path still well marked and in the middle of the forest will take us to a small mountain chapel with a magnificent view of the Mérida valley. From there the vegetation becomes more sparse to reach the hamlet of Cañada Las Gonzalez. We will spend the night in the "Páramo de los Conejos" valley at 3500 meters above sea level after 6 to 7 hours of walking.

Day 2: Ascent of the Campanario peak.

From Campanario Peak base camp, we will hike off trail towards the peak. The ascent is steep and passes by the site of two small plane crashes, the remains of which are still there. Approaching the pass, we will have to take a corridor in the riprap on our right and find a passage to the top in this labyrinth of stones. One or two passages can be impressive but the magnificent view from the top which can carry all the way to Lake Maracaïbo is worth it! Return by the same way to the base camp. We will descend the valley towards the crossing path where we will camp for the night at 3500 meters above sea level.

Accommodation: Night in a tent.
Communication: No network.

Day 3: Return to the Pedregosa

The return path quickly returns to a dense forest on an often wet path. This is an area where bears have been seen on several occasions, silence is essential if you want to have the chance to see one. Here again the small path takes us to a very small chapel with a very beautiful view of Mérida. After 6 to 7 hours of walking we will join the civilized world. A short bus ride will take us to the center of Mérida.

Accommodation: none.
Communication: No network.
